Children’s Director
Administrative / Full-Time
Main Areas of Focus: Lead/Manage/Accountability, Kid’s Programming, Volunteer Oversight, Communication, Family Engagement, and Operations
Location: Franklin, TN.
Position Summary
The Children’s Director provides comprehensive leadership and operational oversight for Stonebridge Kids (birth through 5th grade). This role is responsible for strengthening the overall health, structure, and execution of the ministry by equipping leaders, building strong systems, and ensuring that weekly environments and special events clearly communicate the gospel. The Children’s Director must combine strong team leadership with scalable systems, consistent execution, and measurable ministry effectiveness.
Key Roles
#1: Leadership, Management & Accountability
Healthy ministries require strong leadership structures and measurable outcomes. This role encompasses:
Leading and developing Kids Ministry staff and key volunteer leaders.
Conducting regular team meetings with clear priorities and follow-up.
Maintaining role clarity, accountability structures, and performance expectations.
Establishing and tracking quarterly ministry goals and major initiatives.
Monitoring key ministry metrics (attendance, volunteer engagement, retention, new families, service capacity).
Ensuring alignment with overall church vision, doctrine, and next gen strategy.
Identifying operational gaps and proactively implementing solutions.
#2: Programming & Ministry Environments
Excellence in programming helps children engage deeply with biblical truth. This role encompasses:
Overseeing curriculum planning and creative direction for all age groups.
Reviewing and approving weekly lessons to ensure theological alignment and developmental appropriateness.
Ensuring consistency across nursery, preschool, and elementary environments.
Coordinating production elements including worship, media, staging, and transitions as appropriate.
Evaluating ministry environments quarterly for engagement, clarity, safety, and effectiveness.
Developing scalable programming structures that support multi-service environments and future growth.
#3: Volunteer Recruitment, Development & Training
Strong volunteer teams are essential in a high-capacity church environment. This role encompasses:
Developing and executing an ongoing volunteer recruitment strategy.
Overseeing onboarding, background checks, and safety training compliance.
Hosting quarterly volunteer trainings and leadership development gatherings.
Creating systems for volunteer scheduling, communication, and feedback.
Developing team leads and building leadership pipelines for future growth.
Cultivating a culture of ownership, encouragement, spiritual maturity, and excellence.
Monitoring volunteer retention and proactively addressing morale or staffing gaps.
#4: Communication & Family Engagement
Clear communication strengthens trust and discipleship partnership with families. This role encompasses:
Ensuring consistent communication with parents, volunteers, and staff.
Overseeing weekly leader updates and monthly parent communication.
Maintaining accurate Planning Center events, rosters, and team calendars.
Ensuring structured follow-up processes for new families and guests.
Partner with the Children’s Minister to provide tools and resources that equip families to reinforce biblical discipleship at home.
#5: Events, Operations & Stewardship
Large-scale children’s ministries require strong systems and thoughtful stewardship. This role encompasses:
Planning and overseeing 3–4 major family events annually (including VBS).
Delegating event execution to team leads with clear timelines and accountability.
Conducting post-event evaluations and implementing improvements.
Ensuring child protection policies and safety standards are consistently upheld.
Overseeing ministry supply systems, inventory, and classroom readiness.
Assisting with budget planning, expense tracking, and resource stewardship.
Partnering with Facilities and Operations to ensure environments are clean, secure, and welcoming.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Leadership, Education, or related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in children’s ministry (large church experience strongly preferred).
Demonstrated experience leading staff and large volunteer teams.
Experience building systems in multi-service or high-capacity church environments.
Strong administrative and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage projects and ministry initiatives from planning to execution.
Physical Requirements
Ability to move throughout classrooms and ministry environments for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move classroom materials or supplies (up to 30 lbs.).
Ability to respond quickly to ministry and safety needs during services.
Work Environment
Combination of office, classroom, and live ministry settings.
Requires weekend service leadership and seasonal evening event availability.
Fast-paced ministry environment with high volunteer interaction.
